The hotel BANKHOTEL ART CONGRESS HALL hospitably welcomed the guests and residents of the city on June 8, 2018. The hotel is located in Lviv in a reconstructed building of the former Austro-Hungarian bank in the historic part of the city.
The branch of the Austro-Hungarian Bank was built during the period of the city’s rapid economic development, which took place from 1870 to 1914. Its designing was undertaken by two architects, graduates of the Lviv Polytechnic University, Edmund Zhikhovich and Michal Luzhetsky.
Young architects worked together on the basis of the Zhykhovich design bureau. This bureau was famous for a large number of designed and later constructed buildings. Its main peculiarity is the use of secessional and modernist interpretations of various historical styles.
In 2015 the Creative Architectural Workshop “Kudin” took up the design of the reconstruction and adaptation of historic bank building into a hotel.
The main designing idea is the maximum preservation of the historical appearance of the building as an architectural monument.The elements of the interior that weren’t changed fundamentally, include:
- lobby with marble staircases and stained-glass windows;
- ceramic flooring in the lobby on the ground floor and in the hall on the first floor;
- wall decoration with authentic eaves.
The author of designs for the unique interiors of rooms is Olga Ryabova. The author used graphic compositions of French modernist artists to create them. In particular, special artistic works by Serge Gladkyi and Eduard Benediktus, executed in screen printing technique. Due to this, each room has its magnificent and unique abstract pattern. The main color of the abstraction sets the color of the whole room and allows you to feel the special artistic atmosphere of the beginning of the twentieth century.
