History

Who is the suite named after?

James Ernest Mace was an American historian, political scientist, journalist, professor at the Kyiv-Mohyla Academy, researcher of the Holodomor in Ukraine and author of the report by the U.S. Congressional Commission on the study of the 1932–1933 Holodomor. It was largely thanks to his research that the world learned about the Holodomor in Ukraine. He argued that this tragedy of the Ukrainian people was yet another crime of the Soviet regime and deserved to be recognised as “genocide”.

In 1993, he moved from the United States to Ukraine. He died in Kyiv and was buried at Baikove Cemetery.
