For the first time in 137 years, the feminist publishing house Creative Women Publishing has republished in Ukraine the iconic women’s almanac The First Wreath, which once became a symbol of the unity of the Ukrainian state.
The first presentation of the modern reprint edition took place on January 16 at the BANKHOTEL in Lviv, the city where the original was first published back in 1887. The project was made possible with the support of the Heinrich Boell Foundation, the Kyiv-Ukraine Bureau, the NGO “Girls” and the Ukrainian Women’s Fund.
To hold such an elegant publication in your hands is to feel the touch of a unique “primrose of a woman’s product” and to admire the courage of 17 Ukrainian women who almost 140 years ago had the courage to manifest the idea of Ukrainian unity through words and managed to create an invaluable monument of literature “in the name of our national unity,” said Alla Shvets, Ph, researcher of women’s history Alla Shvets, who is also the scientific editor of the women’s almanac “The First Wreath” and curator of the book project “Those Who Created the First Wreath”
